Sensei Adam Smith
Sensei Adam Smith, founder of Rikido Shotokan Karate in Adelaide, is a dedicated, accomplished and passionate martial artists. With years of experience and a deep commitment to the art of karate, Adam has become a respected figure in both the national and international martial arts community.
A four-time Australian Karate Champion, Adam has dominated the Kumite division, securing national titles in 2023, 2024, and 2025, and claiming the Australian Kata Champion title in 2025. That same year, he was also named National Kumite Champion, earned a silver medal in Kata, and won a bronze medal in Kumite at the prestigious 2025 World Masters Games in Taipei. As a current member of the Karate South Australia (Karate SA) State Team, Adam continues to compete at the highest level, representing his state and country with pride.
But for Adam, karate has always been about more than just medals. It’s a lifelong path of personal growth, confidence, and discipline. His journey has taken him beyond Adelaide, training under some of the world’s top instructors in Japan and the United States. These experiences have helped shape his teaching philosophy—one that blends the strong traditions of Shotokan Karate with modern, practical training methods.
Adam’s approach to teaching is welcoming, supportive, and adaptable to all ages and experience levels. Sensei Lorenzo pancotto
From a young age, Sensei Lorenzo Pancotto developed a deep passion for karate, beginning his training in Italy with unwavering focus and commitment. Under the guidance of respected instructors, he built a strong foundation in technique, discipline, and traditional Shotokan principles—setting the stage for what would become a lifelong journey in martial arts.
As his skills evolved, Lorenzo’s determination and competitive spirit led him to test himself at the highest levels. His pursuit of growth brought him to Australia, where he quickly established himself within the local karate scene. A former South Australian State Team member, Lorenzo claimed major titles including the 2024 South Australian State Karate Title and the Adelaide Grand Slam, demonstrating his abilities both in kata and kumite.
Lorenzo’s dedication to karate has taken him across the globe, including advanced training in Japan at the renowned Hoitsugan Dojo—the historical home of Shotokan Karate and a place of deep tradition and mastery. This experience in the birthplace of karate allowed him to further refine his techniques and gain valuable insight into the deeper philosophies of the art.
Now based in Adelaide, Sensei Lorenzo brings years of experience, international training, and a genuine passion for teaching to every class. His approach is both disciplined and supportive, helping students of all ages and levels reach their potential—whether they're training for fitness, confidence, self-defense, or competition.
